The Verdict:

I got my call! Guess where I'm going.....

If you guessed the Argentina, Buenos Aires North Mission, you would be correct!! How awesome is that?

Melanee and Amanda actually guessed Argentina. You're revelatory prowess is better than mine. I had a dream that I was going to Norway speaking Norwegian (yes it's a language, yes, I had to look that up) leaving in June. NOT SO!! I'm assigned to Argentina, speaking the beautiful language of Espanol, and I'll be reporting March 2. Boo-yah, that's how I feel. And yes, if you look at the picture, my mission is split up between Buenos Aires and the absolute tip of the world, aka Tierra Del Fuego. Although I don't know how anything that close to the ARCTIC can be remotely fire-esque. I guess I'll find out and be able to tell you personally. For all of you who thought I was going to Russia - good news, I'm still going to be cold. But! Not a popsicle with a fur hat. I'll find something classy. Cuz that's just who I am. :)

This is the future Hermana Reed. Over and Out.

Personal Progress!

Yes, you guessed it! Marissa and I both got our Young Women Recognition awards! Anne is close! It was a lot more work then I thought it would be, but it was worth it. The Young Womens had their annual Evening in Excellence where they highlighted the girls, and their personal progress accomplishments throughout the year. The night was themed "Your Happily Ever After" based on the talk given by President Uchtdorf at the Young Womens conference, and so all of the girls and leaders dressed up in old/new prom dresses and paraded around a bit because we are all princesses, and future queens! All in all it was a very fun and lovely evening!

Go Cougars!

We didn't get all sport passes this year, mainly because we weren't going to be around for the whole year, so we haven't been able to go to any of the football games yet. So we decided to look for tickets online and ended up finding them for pretty cheap this weekend for the UNLV game. How awesome is our little cougar? All in all it was a pretty fun game to go to for the whole family (plus Skyler and Mckay).

Our little guy can sleep anywhere! (Except Wyoming I guess...)

Lawson's Blessing Day

We were able to bless Lawson this past Sunday, October 17th. It was such a perfect day because we got to share it was lots of the family! Travis' entire family was able to make it out from Colorado as well as the Andersons from Wyoming, lots of the Sainsbury's family, and all the cousins out here at BYU. Thank you all for making it such a special day for us and our little Lawson! We love you all!

Dallin's place in Espanola

As I was taking pictures, Dallin commented that I just took more pictures than he did his entire mission. Don't know if that is true, so just in case, I took pictures of his room so that he could have some picture of his mission. His companion is Elder Day. He was telling me that he feels trunky too. Then he told me that he still has 21 months left on his mission.

I am so not good at posting. My computer will only publish one picture at a time and I keep back spacing and deleting the picture I just put on. So I will do one more pic tonight and maybe try a couple more tomorrow. Another funny thing. I told Dallin that I would post these pictures on "sobremesa". He, like other grandkids, had this puzzled look on his face. He at least now knows spanish and wanted to know what "over table" meant.

Sneak Peek of Dallin

Got the opportunity to see Dallin. Marlo and I drove down to go to the temple and on the way home stopped in Espanola to pick up some of Dallin's things. Planned to only stop for a couple minutes and not disturb him, but it was Dallin and he is an Anderson. We talked and talked. His area is a tad bit scary. His companion carries a knife just in case. The funny thing was that he has it all taped up so he won't hurt himself. I had to chuckle. He's doing great and looks great and, according to his companion, has been trunky for the past couple weeks. When we finally got in the car we had been there an hour and a half. Hope you enjoys these sneak peek pics of Elder Anderson.

General Conference Weekend

Brenton and Summer were down for the weekend, and came over to visit between Saturday sessions, and stayed for lunch and the afternoon session. So good to visit with them, and see Summer's little tummy! A future Anderson second cousin for Matt & Jaime's kids to play with!
Travis, Katelyn, and Lawson came too, but got away before we got the camera out, too bad for us!
Alicia and McKay came to visit also, and we enjoyed them! Grandma Anderson came out with Kammi Sowards to their Paraguay Mission Reunion Friday evening before Conference. Melanee attended it with her in Murray, and we both had a really nice time eating, meeting and visiting with about 30 of their missionaries. We sang "The Light Divine", and Grandma made some great comments, including sharing excerpts from Nick's letters! Several missionaries told Melanee what fine presidents they had been, and even quoted some advice Grandad had given them before they left, that they had treasured!
Rachel carved a great ghost on the surface of her pumpkin! For some reason, it was a Green Ghost.....
Girls Night crafting while the men attended priesthood meeting! Marissa was responsible for finding and sharing this pumpkin etching idea. Aren't we creative!

Grandma and Julie were proud of their creations! October Conference weekend seems to usher in the true end of summer and beginning of Fall......

so...highschool! :)

Homecoming is different here in Utah, as opposed to what i understand colorado's homecoming dance is. Its not stag, everyone gets a date, and its a huge deal!!
pretty much homecoming has consumed my life for the past few weeks but it was so much fun! we decked the school out like neverland which was awesome! the school really did look like you were on the peter pan ride at disneyland! so after 20+ hours being at the school decorating, the school was transformed!

This pirate ship is about 30 feet tall. it was ridiculous to set up, but super cool haha

This is Big ben, which counted down the days to homecoming

This was the main entrance of the school. Its the nursery, and probably my favorite set up! our theme was forever young, and what better place to stay FOREVER YOUNG then neverland??

This was in the jungle hall. Making this tree was crazy tough, but so worth it. there's a bench in the tree, where kids would all hang out. Anyways these are just some of the decorations we did. hopefully not too boring, but i wanted to show you all whats been going on down in good ol' salem hills high school haha

oh...nearly forgot. somehow i got 2nd attendant in the homecoming royalty, and it was super funny cuz during half time, we all rode out in our fancy dresses on segways. we had to wear helmets though, so we all look like dorks haha but thats what highschool is for right?

well anyways...its my senior year! i'm lovin life! and homecoming was amazing!!!

Marissa out :D

Skyler's Surgery

Skyler is all prepped and ready for surgery. Let's get the show on the road. And boy! What a show it ended up being!

On a dark Thursday morning, at 5:00am, I took Skyler to the surgical center to have some work done on his ankle. They ended up taking out a couple of "things" (don't know how to spell them or explain them, so we'll just leave it at that) and he's hopeful he'll be back into full swing soon. Although he is enjoying having a temporary parking pass to park on campus and close to his classes!
I was able to be with Skyler right before he went to surgery, and then again right after surgery. They took me into the recovery room and had me sit by Skyler. The doctor came in and explained everything in "medicalese", a language I'm not too familiar with, and then asked Skyler how he was doing. Skyler laid there with eyes closed and no response, and the doctor said, "I'll take that as fine, and then left." So, the nurse came over and checked on things and in a few minutes Skyler began to wake up from his anesthesia state. His first mumbled words were, "do I have a foot?" and "do I have a prosthesis?" I guess he was secretly worried he might end up without his foot! But it was there, just very numb.
He then proceeded to wake up more and began to sing the theme song to "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and I was getting quite a kick out of it. After a few more minutes I was in stitches with the things he was coming up with. I suddenly remembered that I had a digital camera in the bottom of my bag that had the capability to take video. I quickly extracted it from the depths of my bag and started filming Skyler. He was absolutely hilarious and was soon entertaining the whole recovery room, nurses and all, with his "show".
After Skyler had "come down" from his post-anesthesia recovery, we watched the videos together (I got one long one, and a couple of shorter ones from the camera. When the memory card filled up, I managed to get about 3 more on my cell phone). We laughed so hard over them, it was great. I can honestly say that I will truly remember and treasure this memory/time with Skyler. It's one of the best!
I sent one short clip to Josh and Nick and if you've read their emails you will have read how they laughed in their internet cafes and thought it was hilarious. Some of you have asked about it, so, with Skyler's permission, I am posting that short clip here on the family blog, so you can all get a taste of the entertainment! You can all thank Skyler later for giving you a good laugh! So, on with the show: (go down to the very bottom of the blog site and push the pause button on the music so the music will quit playing and you will be able to hear the video)

Skyler's Finger

A Grandma's gotta brag!

This is my first try at this, let's see how it goes. Of course our biggest news of September is that I have now joined the "Grandma" club, Marissa has become an aunt, and Skyler, Josh and Nick have become uncles. (Travis reports on his and Katelyn's and Lawson's news!) I was able to fly out after receiving "the phone call" from Travis that Katelyn was in labor. I thought I'd miss the baby's birth, but I managed to arrive in plenty of time, which unfortunately meant that Katelyn's labor went much longer than anticipated! It was fun to be there to see Lawson just minutes after his birth, and then to spend a couple of days helping them out. I was also able to help Skyler when he had surgery on his ankle. So it was pretty good timing and it was fun to do both, "mother" and start being a grandma! I went home for about 5 days and then returned with Marissa so she could meet her new nephew. Marissa was thrilled to spend so much time with Lawson and even secretly hoped we would miss our plane when we left so she'd get to stay another day! I just want to ditto what I have heard many times, "it's great fun being a grandparent"!

Lawson Carleton Anderson- 3 days old

Giving Grandma and Aunt Marissa a good look before they leave--12 days old

Grandma was lucky to have the camera "at the ready" to catch this smile---and they say this is gas--we don't believe it!

Look who knows his grandma, even at 1 hour old!

Skyler, taking on the role of Uncle Skyler with ease!

"We can miss our plane....I want to keep holding Lawson!"

"Touchdown!!"

Marissa has a natural touch for being an aunt!

Grandma can't seem to get enough!

Daddy and son bonding moment......"Go BYU!"

We have had great fun with this new little bundle of boy joy. We look forward to seeing all of them in two weeks when Josh comes home. Grandma can have her next "grandbaby fix"!

Send me some info please!!

Ok, after a few hints, (ok Seth right out and told me) that I should add links to everyone's family blogs I decided to figure out how and did it. But I don't have very many blog addresses. Please send me your family blog address and I'll add it. Also, if your invite to add to the blog has expired or if you never got one please email me and let me know and I'll send that out to you as soon as I can. I could also use some suggestions for new music. I only put a few on that remind me of our family but I'm willing to put new songs on if you tell me what you'd like to hear. mmkenna1@msn.com is my email address. Thanks, and keep adding to the site, I love to see what is going on in everyone's life.
